About AVA
AVA aims to
promote the work of voluntary arts groups across the Wakefield district. It has
grown out of a merger between two Wakefield organisations, DIVA and Next
Generation. DIVA worked on behalf of voluntary groups for almost 20 years and
AVA will be continuing this work.
What are voluntary arts?
Voluntary or amateur arts are creative activities that people take part in for self-improvement, friendship and fun! These activities are many and varied and include choirs, drama societies, photography clubs, writers groups, brass bands, crafts groups and more. For many people, voluntary arts are their first, and often only, point of access to creative activities.
And voluntary arts groups?
Voluntary arts groups are run by the people who also take part in the activity. They bring together like-minded people to share skills and creativity, strengthening friendships and bringing communities together. What’s more, research shows that taking part leads to happier, healthier individuals.
The voluntary arts community in Wakefield has a long and proud history – there are groups in the district who have been going 20, 50, even 100 years! And with new groups springing up all the time, this tradition looks set to continue. Be part of it by joining AVA.
